Spring Up: The Best Skin Care Tips for Spring

Posted by Sarah Gershon on Mon, Mar 21, 2011 @ 18:03 PM

Is your skin ready for spring? Well, according to the calendar, winter has officially ended and spring is finally here! Small changes are already happening- the days get longer, temperatures begin to climb and everything seems a little brighter… so now is the perfect time to clear your closet from those heavy sweaters, take your sandals out and get your skin care routine ready for spring.

Winter time can be a harsh time on your skin. Dry, cold and windy weather, along with overheating make your skin feel scaly and coarse. Areas like the elbows, heels and knees may look cracked, encrusted and rough. Spring is the perfect time to show off your knees, heels, shoulders or elbows- no matter what your fashion style is, your skin needs some attention, and fast!

Get a Spring Makeover

The first thing you want to do when preparing skin for spring is to get rid of all the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, which have accumulated during the winter. Start your way from the feet up:

  • Give yourself a pedicure- with simple tools like a pedicure stone or a pedicure Swedish file, along with a rich foot scrub and foot cream you can give yourself the prefect pedicure, and get rid of dead skin cell and cuticles, for the perfect spring feet.
  • Exfoliate all over- scrub your knees and elbow vigorously, and then use a more  gentle  scrubbing motion for the rest of your body, exfoliate your skin during a warm shower (or after a good bath). This will help your skin to renew its cells, rejuvenate and glow.  You can even use a body wrap for deeper moisturizing of the skin for spring.
  • Switch to spring body lotions- as the days are getting warmer, you need a rich body lotion that can be quickly absorbed and won't make you look sweaty or sticky, rather shiny and smooth. Choose a light body lotion that will keep your skin nourished and healthy and leave those heavy winter creams aside.
